‘Twas a beautiful July 31st evening, 2021 at the Key West Theater benefiting Nicky’s Celebration (a local non-profit helping local families fight pediatric cancer).
Me and my very recently assembled Wayne “Led” Sorbelli’s Tribute to Led Zeppelin Show band consisting of 12 of the loveliest, hardest working musicians I know, rotating duties as their personal and professional schedules provided, worked up 12 of Zep’s greatest hits for the event.
I am very proud of everyone I worked with and the results. Look at song credits for a list of a names of my friends/players/cancer fighters/cancer survivors/and those like myself who had lost someone very close to them via cancer. We assembled and kicked cancers ass on that night. We raised peace signs, fists, hope, and many screaming testimony’s!!!
No better way to start something like this than to come out of the gate shooting from the hip with my little electric ukulele – it’s the smallest thing I play but makes ME feel way way bigger than I am – so it empowers me on stage – funny? – I guess – but it’s the truth. So I felt like a giant on stage playing a pretty easy guitar song (that’s a joke) on a little ukulele with a guitar pickup installed in it . It was a way to empower me and set the theme for the night’s comings – we were going to kick cancer in the balls on this night like giants. Like the Hammer of the Gods!!!! (But in our own Key West kind of quarkie weird little island way)

I took a walk to a secluded beach while writing a song i’ve been calling “The Lemon Family Tree” and then played it while sitting in the Atlantic Ocean. It’s about making the best with what you’ve got – you know the classic lemons into lemonade – or my metaphor of bagging cow pellets & selling as fertilizer lol

I say my Led Zep act has “grownup” & is a teenager now. I started out with the idea to do a legit zep tribute band while playing in the Key West Rock Band called DWC STRAIN (the house band for the restaurant/music venue) themed after it’s multi-season famous HOTROD muscle car TV show. David Warren was drumming AND lead singing for that band – and we played an increasingly high majority of Led Zep sets upon the sheer amount of bulk requests.
Now I say “It” (my KEY WEST Led Zep tribute band idea) had grown into the Florida Keys Led Zeppelin Tribute Band (thanks to Cliff Rydell for imagining, executing & producing this movie about the Making of a real tribute band in the keys) This helped with my band’s transition into adolescence. Meaning it’s grown from simply the Key West Led Zeppelin Tribute Band to a full scale FLORIDA KEYS Led Zeppelin tribune band.
Like the Vikings we sing about in our opening song – “The Immigrant Song“. I plan on “claiming” the Keys territory with my Zeppelin Act by working hard enough to become the best at doing it!!
I can’t wait to meet you all again when it’s all grown up and playing somewhere like Key West Arena shows in the near & continuing future.

It was a typical day in paradise – sunny, low 80’s, cool Spring April breeze coming off the Atlantic Ocean, birds singing, sea gulls abundant and in the distance, as my beautiful wife & life partner Jamie drives us up the Marathon Country Club driveway mmmmmm we could hear the crew setting up the stage and sound system – I’m not going to lie – at that point I felt that little butterfly in my tummy – the good one not the other bad one lol – and I took it as a sign of anxious strength (like waiting at the staring line for the staring gun to go off) – and I knew it was going to be an excellent day.
The day was April 11, 2021. It was the filming date of the performances being used in the movie, “The Making of a Tribute Band in the Florida Keys” starring Michael Allman, Greg Allman‘s son of the Allman Brothers band, costarring yours truly Wayne Sorbelli of Island Guitar AKA Bone Island Music in Key West and a host of other great Florida keys musicians like Ray West (who was charged with finding the “right” local musicians with adequate skill levels for the highly demanding musical & technical tasks on hand, & with the willingness & time to do it) and he did a fantastic job!!! Thanks bother Ray!!!
