Key West Turtle Ukulele SALE Key West & Dallas

This is a Luna “Hono UKE” or Turtle Soprano Ukulele. Island Guitar Key West and Dallas both have them in stock again (sorry to those who tried to order last week – but we can’t keep these solid mahogany turtle ukes from flying off the shelves)

Luna’s HONU Soprano Ukulele takes its design from traditional Hawaiian body ornamentation. The designs were monochromatic, tattooed in black against brown skin. The patterns and layout were strongly geometric and there were many shapes and symbols which represented the natural island world:stones, waves, fish, sharks, turtles, rain, sun, birds. This design is based on a Hawaiian turtle (honu), a symbol of longevity and endurance rendered in a Polynesian tattoo style. The fret markers are stylized sharks teeth.

Staying late after a nice day of teaching guitar and ukulele lessons at my Key West Music store to set up this awesome Les Paul, made custom new by Gibson USA .

One LUCKY customer is going to be getting this 1971 Gibson Les Paul Sunburst back in a day or two with a few tone tricks added in!! I can’t wait to string it up and test drive it and stretch the strings out on this one. 

This LP had some electrical issues that were more of an old age time/worn issue – this beauty is as good as they get – sound and pliability are top shelf!! – well it is getting up there in age 43 yrs old makes it vintage to me!

My 1994 Gibson Les Paul Custom autographed by Warren Haynes & Johnny Winter

Johnny Winter inspired me to pick up and try to play slide guitar a long time ago, then years later Derek Trucks re-ignited my passion for it.

This is my 1994 Gibson Les Paul Custom that I purchased brand new, but one year old, in 1995.

It was signed by Warren Haynes not long after I bought it, then the Master Slide Legend Johnny Winter a few years later!!

I ‘m stringing it as I usually do – with size 10-46 Strings.

I’m not too partial to one brand or the other at the moment, as I see great qualities in a few brands and go back and forth depending on the tone I’m shooting for, or the mood I’m in. GHS, Dunlop, Ernie Ball and DR are my go to favorites.

I tune it Standard Low to High EADGBe for slide or finger playing.

Overall for feel and tone, I prefer using glass over metal slides – when I do want the CRISPY SHIVERS of metal on metal sliding, I prefer Brass to chrome.

Ukulele Size Chart – Length, Scale & Body Shape

* The above pictured dimensions were taken from Luna brand ukuleles and can be used as a general rule for identifying purposes, with each brand varying slightly in measurement, but following the same order.

There are four main types of ukuleles: Soprano – Concert (or Alto) – Tenor – Baritone

Soprano: Tuning: gCEA, aDF#B

Concert (or Alto): Tuning: gCEA (re-entrant), GCEA (linear (tune G down an entire Octave))

Tenor: Tuning: gCEA (re-entrant), GCEA (linear) using Low 4th G string, or DGBE (like Baritone)

Baritone: Tuning: DGBE (1st four strings of a guitar) 

Bass Uke or sometimes called a  UBass is as a regular Bass guitar would be tuned: low to high (4th-1st)  EADG

**remember that the 1st string of any guitar or UKULELE is the one furthest from your face while playing      ** (the smallest/thinnest  string on a GUITAR is the first, and furthest away from your face while playing it)
